Kintbury is a large village and civil parish in central-southern England, located in West Berkshire between the towns of Newbury and Hungerford.
In Kintbury there is a primary school and a CofE parish church both dedicated to St Mary, a post office, a corner shop, and one of the few village fishmonger's left in the United Kingdom, run by veteran fishmonger, Gerry Thurgut, who has been in the trade for 50 years.
Kintbury was spelt Cynetanbyrig in the 10th century and Kenetebury in the 13th.

The Kintbury building consisted of a large hypocaust heated tepidarium or warm room with two smaller annexes: an unheated frigidarium (cold room) which may have held a swimming pool-like tank for plunging and the typical apsidal caldarium or hot room.
Kintbury became one of Berkshire’s proto-towns and, in 1267, was granted the right to hold a weekly market and two three-day fairs on the feast days of the Virgin Mary and SS.

Barton Court is the manor house of Kintbury Amesbury, named after the Wiltshire Abbey which owned it throughout the Middle Ages.
The present house was built in about 1680, for Jonathan Raymond and his wife, Anne, the daughter of Philip Jemmett, a wealthy London brewer, who had become one of Berkshire's landed gentry only fifteen years before.
He had purchased the manor from the heirs of the Darells of Littlecote Park (Wiltshire) and it was probably in the previous house that the infamous Wild Will Darell had died in 1588, before his burial in Kintbury parish church.
