Kintore forms one of the Elgin group of parliamentary burghs, the others being Banff, Cullen, Elgin, Inverurie and Peterhead.
One mile to the southwest are the ruins of Hallforest Castle, of which two storeys still exist, once a hunting-seat of Robert Bruce and afterwards a residence of the Keiths, earls marischal.
Kintore gives the title of earl in the Scottish, and of baron in the British peerage to the head of the Keith-Falconer family.

The archaeologists say that the Kintore camp was definitely occupied in 120 AD and may have been occupied on as many as three occasions during the Scottish campaigns, before disappointment about the lack of resources and more pressing matters elsewhere in the Roman Empire, brought about consolidation and retreat.
Within the genealogy of the Earl of Kintore and the Keith family, a marriage is recorded between John Fraser "Farmer and Innkeeper Bridgealehouse" and Jean Gordon on 16 October 1779.
The old bridge had cast figures on the link girders representing the arms of the Earl of Kintore and this is echoed by the similar arms on the girders of the new bridge.

The name Kintore comes from the Gaelic, Ceann-an-torr, "Ceann" means head or end, "Torr" means a round hill, the name signifies that the town was at the head or end of a round hill.
The Castle was one of the earliest towers in Scotland.
The town house is in the centre of Kintore and dates from 1734, the house has external double stairs and clock tower with ogee roof, two storey, five-window front in rough granite ashlar.

The title Earl of Kintore was created in the Peerage of Scotland in 1677 for Sir John Keith, along with the title of Lord Keith of Inverurie and Keith Hall.
At the death of William, the fourth Earl, in 1761 the earldom became dormant as no-one could prove a claim to it.
The Lordship of Falconer of Halkerton and the Earldom of Kintore remained united until 1966, when, at the death of the tenth Earl, the Lordship became dormant.

Kintore is situated in Cock o' the North country to the south east of Inverurie in an area of Aberdeenshire which is currently being torn apart by much needed upgrading of the Aberdeen to Inverness road to a dual carriageway.

Kintore Golf Club, situated in the Royal Burgh of Kintore, was formed in 1911, since which time the total membership has grown to around 700.
In the early 1990’s the course was extended to 18 holes and now covers a large area of ground from the Don basin, overlooked by the clubhouse, to mature woodland at the far perimeter, giving an interesting contrast between the ‘old and new nines’.
From the centre of Kintore village take the B977 Hatton of Fintray road and then turn left over the railway line, and the Clubhouse can easily be seen after crossing the river.

The Kintore Burgh Bulletin (?1985) reported that at the AGM in November (?possibly 1984) it had been decided to replace the green doublets with fl jackets.
The party began with a display in Kintore Square, where the band was supported by Ellon and District Pipe Band in performing a beating of the retreat and drum salute.
