Kipland Kinkel was sentenced Nov. 10 to nearly 112 years in prison for the 1998 shooting rampage that left his parents and two classmates dead.
Kinkel insisted he loved his parents, whom he killed after he was expelled from school for having a stolen gun in his locker.
Kinkel had hidden his face or put his head on the table earlier in the hearing when people described his crimes, but sat up during the victims' statements, apparently keeping a resolution recounted by his sister, Kristin, to listen to the victims.

I was appalled when I heard a news report that Kipland Kinkel's father purchased guns for his son because the boy showed an unhealthy fascination with them.
In Kinkel's case, the anti-social behaviors leading up to his horrible acts could not be fixed by providing guns, shooting lessons and locks on his arsenal.
Indeed, if anything, the Kinkel case illustrates that the National Rifle Association's argument about responsible gun ownership as the key to preventing violence is seriously flawed -- at least when it comes to guns and children.
