Also at stake are the lives of Trip Tucker and Malcolm Reed, who in the previous episode got trapped on the rogue ship when Enterprise first encountered it and it suddenly fled.
David Livingston was director on this show, his third of the season after " Borderland " (which will repeat in December) and next week's " Kir'Shara."
The episode is titled "United," conceived by Manny Coto and scripted by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens.

ST Universe Episode Review - Enterprise Season 4 Daedalus
For me, however, the saving grace of the episode was the wonderfully played final scene between Trip and T'Pol, where they discuss the effect that the discovery of the Kir'Shara is having on T'Pol.
The episode also manages to be quite atmospheric, with the energy-drain problems resulting in darkened rooms and corridors lit only by the odd computer panel.
Of course, the flipside of this is that it could be said that the episode was trying too hard to be spooky, and than the predictable script failed to create any suspense — but you have to give the lighting guys credit for their technical accomplishments, if nothing else.

Ex Astris Scientia - What is Canon?
Another one is the Vulcan arc of ENT: "The Forge", "The Awakening" and "Kir'Shara" that successfully removes a previous continuity error concerning Vulcan Mind Melds from canon.
Moreover, but this is just a practical consideration, in technical Trek discussions it is very useful to have ship class names like "New Orleans" instead of referring to "the Enterprise-D kitbash, the smaller ship with the two additional pods on top".
(Note: There are a few details from an episode of the Animated Adventures that have entered into the Star Trek canon.

ST Universe Episode Review - Enterprise Season 4 Awakening
After the slow pace of the majority of the episode, its final few moments seem to fly by, as Archer manages to retrieve the Kir'Shara and Soval reveals the plot to invade Andoria.
With his involvement in the plot to frame and eradicate the Syrranites, and then as the episode progressed, his willingness to prevent Enterprise from reaching the planet's service, V'Las is in danger of crossing the line between a believable and misguided villain and a two-dimensional “bad guy”.
In many ways, the title of the episode could be taken as a reference to the process the Vulcan people are now going through, as much as a reference to Surak's Time of Awakening.

Surak - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Archer and T'Pau were successful in taking the artifact to the Vulcan High Command which resulted in its overthrow (see the Enterprise episode entitled "Kir'Shara" for details).
Surak died in the 4th century CE (based upon Earth's calendar, approximately 1,800 years before the events of the Star Trek: Enterprise episode "Awakening"), apparently of radiation poisoning caused by a nuclear-like battle that devastated Vulcan.
Surak actually displays emotion when talking to Archer, as well as the use of Earth-based idioms, but this is clearly because of the influence of Archer's mind.

Star Trek LCARS Episode Database - Star Trek: Enterprise Episode Guide - Season 4
All in all, "Kir'Shara" was a solid representation of Star Trek, and a great way to end the first part of the fourth season.
In part one of the two-part In a Mirror, Darkly, we take a look at the Enterprise and how it is run in that same mirror universe that we first witnessed with Mirror, Mirror.
Part 2 of the 3-episode span (it's not an Arc!) is the tightest of the three.

The climax of the Vulcan arc is called "Kir'Shara," referring to an ancient artifact presumably containing the original writings of Surak, the father of Vulcan logic.
Combs makes his sixth appearance on Star Trek: Enterprise as Shran, the Andorian always keeping tally of favors between him and Archer (Combs also played a Ferengi in "Acquisition").
The role of Andorians in the eventual formation of an interstellar league of planets comes into play during the final episode of a trilogy about Vulcan reformation, and Jeffrey Combs has dutifully returned to don the blue antennae as "Shran."

Surak - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Surak died in the 4th century C.E. (based upon Earth's calendar, approximately 1,800 years before the events of the Star Trek: Enterprise episode "Awakening"), apparently of radiation poisoning caused by a nuclear-like battle that devastated Vulcan.
Conversing with Archer inside his own mind once again, Surak instructed Archer to recover an artifact called the kir'shara which Surak claimed could unite the warring factions on Vulcan.
A decade or so later, in 2154 prior to the outbreak of a near-civil war on Vulcan, Syrran was killed while escorting Captain Jonathan Archer and T'Pol to his group's headquarters in the Vulcan forge.

Ex Astris Scientia - Alpha and Beta Quadrant Ships A-E
The second type of Andorian vessels could be seen in ENT: "Kir'Shara", approaching the site of the battle alongside the already familiar warships (below).
The pod was used in "Proving Ground" and could be briefly seen at the end of the episode when Archer returned to Enterprise.
No details of the Andorian escape pod are known instead that it probably fits into the launch bay of the NX class.
