Majestic crater lake at the top of Mt. Kirishima is one of the highest above sea level.
Kirishima Town is located in the north-eastern part of Kagoshima and is the entrance to the Kirishima district of Kirishima-Yaku National Park, that comprises the Kirishima volcanic chain, Sakura-jima Island and Yaku-shima Island.
In the red-painted main building of Kirishima-jinja Shrine, an Important Cultural Property, the kagura dance, music and festivals are dedicated: the Minami-kyushu Kagura-matsuri Festival in summer, Kumen-daiko drums and the fantastic fire festival of Tenson-korin-gojinka-sai Festival in winter.

Kirishima (霧島町-) was a town in Aira District, Kagoshima Prefecture.
The town was merged with the city of Kokubu and the towns of Fukuyama, Hayato, Makizono, Mizobe, and Yokogawa (all from Aira District) to form the city of Kirishima on November 7, 2005.
The Kirishima region is famous for the Kirishima Shrine (霧島神宮) and the chain of volcanic mountains above it, especially Mt. Takachiho (高千穂).

Ishibashi Memorial Park opened in 2000, and it is hoped that it helps the citizens of Kagoshima to become more familiar with the history of the city, and helps to preserve the bridges for future generations to see.

On your journey to Ebino-Kogen, you can see the Kirishima Shrine and Marua waterfall.
Kirishima Shrine was like any other shrine with one big gate but it was raining when I reached there which made it very beautiful.

I finally just got fed up of being around home and hopped a train to Kirishima-jingu to see the famous Kirishima Shrine.
As you should know by now, I -love- shrines and Kirishima’s is one of the best in Kyushu.
I tried to take some videos with my camera so I could just capture the sounds of the place but in all of them you can hear me moving around or brushing the mic too much so the effect isn’t quite there.
