Review | To The Edge by Kirk Johnson
Kirk Johnson, a New York Times writer, takes the reader on his personal answer to these questions in To the Edge: A Man, Death Valley, and the Mystery of Endurance.
These were human-interest stories and Johnson tried to maintain a writer's objectivity, but the questions of endurance and the line between the rational mind and the body's abilities eventually caught him up in the runner's inner journey.
Johnson's prose and his tidbits of Death Valley history and tales of other runners and other Badwater races is so absorbing you begin to understand that Badwater itself is about slowing down, thinking your way through, crossing your own line.

Vitali Klitschko/Kirk Johnson Analysis & Predictions
Kirk Johnson’s training habits have too often been questioned due to a physique that is not, perhaps, as aesthetically pleasing as that of most heavyweight contenders.
It was Kirk’s injury that allowed Klitschko the chance to clash with Lennox Lewis is June and I believe that somewhere deep down inside of Kirk, he feels that he, and not Vitali, is the one who should have been in the ring giving the champion all he could handle six months ago.
Kirk’s poorest showing as a professional was against John Ruiz who has a penchant for clinching and bull-rushing when he’s in even slight trouble (due largely to over-cautiousness from a :19 KO by David Tua).
