 Timothy Eaton
Timothy Eaton (1834 - January 31, 1907) was a businessman born in Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, of a Protestant Scottish ancestry.
In 1861, with the help of his brothers Robert and James, Timothy Eaton set up a bakery business in the town of Kirkton, Ontario[?] which went under after only a few months.
Undaunted, he opened a dry goods store and from that success he would move to the city of Toronto where in 1869 he created the unheard of concept of one-stop shopping at a "department store," a phenomena that soon spread to New York, Chicago, London, and Paris.

He was born in Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, of a Protestant Scottish ancestry.
This statue now sits in the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, and its replica sits in the MTS Centre in Winnipeg.
The Toronto statue is now housed by the Royal Ontario Museum, and the Winnipeg statue sits in the city's new arena, the MTS Centre, in almost in the exact same spot where it stood in the now demolished Eaton's store.

He enlisted at London Ontario on March 25, 1915 with the 33rd Battalion and was subsequently reassigned or transferred to the 161st Huron Battalion and then to the 58th (BK).
The Battalion was mobilized in London, Ontario and along with the Battalion he departed Halifax on November 1, 1916 aboard the SS Lapland.
He enlisted on December 13, 1915 at St. Mary’s Ontario with the 110th Battalion at the age of 21; however, he must have transferred to “C” Coy of the 58th Battalion at some point since he was killed in action on June 26, 1917 while serving with the 58th.

Timothy Eaton collected the produce from the local farmers as he travelled around the countryside advertising his goods and then transported the grain to the mill in St Marys.
Some time in the fall of 1860 Timothy Eaton moved from Kirkton to St Marys establishing a bakery.

The late Ward Allen was born in Kirkton, Ontario into a musical family.
As a teenager, he won local and regional contests and in 1949, he won first prize at the Canadian National Exhibition competition in Toronto.
He was able to repeat this accomplishment for a number of years and, in 1953 he went on to win the Canadian Open Championships in Shelburne, Ontario.

Last week in London at the Galleria Eaton store there was a presentation of an enlarged commemorative stamp to the Kirkton-Woodham Community Centre and to Ray and Wendy Venturin, operators of the Kirkton market, the ancestor of Timothy Eaton's original business.
After coming to Canada in 1856 from his native Ireland, he settled and eventually opened his first store in the Huron-Bruce town of Kirkton, Ontario.
Later Timothy Eaton left Kirkton for St. Mary's, Ontario, where he began a small dry goods store.
