The Kirov class (A large fast warship; smaller than a battleship and larger than a destroyer) cruisers were six vessels built between 1935-1944 for the (additional info and facts about Soviet Navy) Soviet Navy: Kirov, Voroshilov, Maxim Gorky, Molotov, Kalinin, and Kaganovich.
On 4 April 1942 Kirov was sunk in an air attack in the German operation "Eisstoß" by Luftflotte 1, but was raised and repaired during 1943.
During the 1960s, Kirov served as a training ship, regularly visiting (A republic in central Europe; the invasion of Poland by Germany in 1939 started World War II) Poland and (A republic in north central Europe on the Baltic; established by the Soviet Union in 1954; reunified with West Germany in 1990) East Germany.

The idea was that the big guns would allow it to take out destroyers and smaller cruisers before the battlecruiser ever got into range of their guns or torpedoes, while their speed would enable them to escape enemy battleships, or to swoop on crippled enemy battleships during a fleet action.
The US later built the battlecruiser-like "large cruisers" USS Alaska and Guam, which served effectively in WWII, although this design evolved from the heavy cruiser, but a planned additional four in the class were cancelled after the war.

The Takao and Chokai, while not as famous as the Hood, are the only 1/350 cruisers in plastic, much less IJN ones, and will similarly sell like hot cakes.
In fact the low level of maintenance of the wooden deck cladding was the direct cause of the need for frequent and time consuming repair and replacement of same, to the extent that many cruisers during refit from 1942 onwards did not have the wood areas repaired, but just removed and replaced with semtex.
This is not to say that decks were not cleaned, but there is no doubt that the frequency of cleaning was generally lower than in peacetime.
