Kiskunhalas was one of the most important Orthodox communities, and its rabbis were famous.
The situation of Kiskunhalas Jews changed for the worse during the “White Terror.” The rioters robbed their shops, arrested the community leaders, and the children of the educated class under the pretext of “sympathizing with Communism.” After the terror died down, life seemed to return to its usual routine.
After the German occupation in May 1944, the Jews of Kiskunhalas and the vicinity were concentrated in a ghetto that was surrounded by a high barbed wire fence to isolate the Jews completely from the Christian population.

The failure and the oil contamination are discovered by an employee of the Kiskunhalas Exploiting Plant of MOL (Hungarian Gas and Oil Co. Plc.) 20 metres away from the pig launching chamber on 15th June 1994.
After disconnecting and draining off the oil from the pipeline and then partial accumulation of the escaped oil, the failured section of the pipe was excavated.

The region of Kiskunhalas (population approximation 85,000, with 28 GPs) was chosen because of the extremely high suicide rate of that region (50-55 per 100,000 persons per year).
Many of them refer their depressed patients to a depression clinic that was established at the Kiskunhalas Psychiatric Hospital in conjunction with this project.
The Kiskunhalas region was chosen because it had a suicide rate two-third’s higher than the national average in Hungary, a country that for the past 100 years has had the world’s highest suicide rate.

In the 20th century Kiskunhalas was made famous by the unique Halas Lace, presented to the public at the Museum of Applied Arts in Budapest in 1902 for the first time.
From that time up to this day, this extraordinary handmade Lace is bound to the town of Kiskunhalas, which today is the center of Hungarian needle point lace-making.

This Led, in the spring of 1953, to the reconstruction and modernization of the Lace House, at considerable expense.
The 50cm-diameter lace was presented to Pope John Paul II by the Hungarian state to mark the occasion of his visit to Hungary in the autumn of 1996.
After the 1989 political reforms, Kiskunhalas established the Halas Lace Foundation (1992), which, like previous lace-supporting organizations, considered its main purposes to be the resurrection of Halas Lace and its popularization both in Hungary and abroad.

According to the plaque that was revealed on its 125th anniversary: 'The collection of György Révész with the guidance of parson Áron Szilády and István Gyárfás was bought by the Reformed Church of Kiskunhalas in 1874.
A significant result of the 1950s was the museum acquiring the collection of almost 1100 pieces of a farmer named Ferenc Molnár K. At the beginning of 1951 László Nagy Czirok was entrusted with the managing work of the museum.
At the beginning of 1960 the volume titled 'The Kiskunhalas Monograph of Local history' was born between the walls of this museum.

Funded by a grant from the Open Society Institute, the new program was initiated this fall in the Kiskunhalas region of Hungary, a country with one of the highest suicide rates in the world.
John Mann visited the Kiskunhalas region, overseeing the first training lectures, meeting the project’s personnel and visiting Hungarian physicians in their offices.
As of 1997, the rate was 31.7 per 100,000 persons per year — almost three times that of the U.S. The Kiskunhalas region in particular was chosen as the focus of this study due to its even higher suicide rate (50-55 per 100,000 persons per year).

From August 1st to August 13th, 14 students from Romania involved in the Global Teenager Project (GTP) participated at a summer camp held in Kiskunhalas, Hungary and Ozunca-Băi, Covasna, Romania.
The summer camp was co-sponsored by Amőba Foundation and Szélkiáltó Természetvédő Egyesület (an environment NGO based in Kiskunhalas), and it brought Hungarian and Romanian students together in order to learn about human aggression towards the environment.
During the two weeks, the participants spent a lot of time discussing human interaction with the environment, as well as going on numerous hikes around Kiskunhalas and Ozunca-Băi to see first hand the impact humans can have on the environment.

He actually called me a crazy woman, coming all the way from England to go to Kiskunhalas where there was nothing.
