Kislovodsk (Кислово́дск) is a city of 129,788 inhabitants (2002 census) in Stavropol Krai, Russia.
It lies in the North Caucasus region of Russia, between the Black and Caspian seas, at 43°54′N 42°43′E Kislovodsk (Rus: Sour Water) named so, cause where are many mineral springs around the city.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Kislovodsk was home to many musicians, artists, and members of the Russian aristocracy, including Nobel Prize winner Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.

In 1798, the Russian military and border redoubt of Yessentuksky was laid on the right bank of the Bolshoy Yssentuchyok River, near its confluence with the Podkumok River.
After construction of the Kislovodsk fortress (founded in 1803), the redoubt was abolished, and the Cossack post was only kept on its site.
Construction of the Rostov-on-Don - Mineralnye Vody railway in 1875 and the Mineralnye Vody - Kislovodsk highway (via Pyatigorsk and Yessentuki)contributed to increase in the number of guests coming to Yessentuki for treatment.
