Last Christmas, when I saw that the HLOC was presenting the Messiah at the Episcopal Church in Eureka, I decided to go, mainly to remind myself of the superb performance I had heard the year before in New York.
By the time the local performers had sung through the first chorus, I knew I was listening to music that surpassed the Lincoln Center Messiah.
Musical director James Stanard apparently has worked them hard, creating a balanced mix of timbres and tones.

As musicals go, Kismet is a pure delight with humor, romance and some fine tunes, although many might not be recognizable - other than "Stranger in Paradise" which has made the rounds on stage, movies and television.
Kismet opened on Broadway in 1953 and was a hit and continues on in that tradition wherever it plays.
