Fate, “the supposed force, principle, or power that predetermines events,” as defined by the dictionary, is known under many names¾destiny, kismet, predestination, foreordainment, foredoom, luck, or just coincidence¾and is often described by individuals around the world.
Fate means different things to different people, but in general it is described as a moment when our destinies are guided by something we cannot explain, a moment when things happen that seem coincidental, miraculous or simply amazing.
The editors share their own instances of the hand of fate and have compiled a unique collection that is sure to be appreciated by readers who have even a hint of appreciation for the unknown, the mystical and the fact of life that not everything can be explained.

I’m ashamed to say Kismet hasn’t been to his vet in over a year because to see her cost money I simply didn’t and don’t have.
This last year I’ve been treating Kismet by his symptoms and praying that I’m doing things right and lying awake nights worrying about what I shall do when the “crash” comes or if he begins to suffer and needs me to perform the last and greatest act of friendship.
At this stage of the disease’s progression Kismet needs to see his vet and his vet needs to test both his blood and his blood pressure to know where we are going wrong.

Destiny, the fate of a particular person, may in a sense imply a goal towards which that person must endeavour or it may be used to refer to fate as applied to some role he is obliged by fate to fulfil.
In Hindu and Buddhist thought, fate is pictured as a ceaseless cycle of action and the results of action, although, through self-realisation, the individual may escape this eternal treadmill.
Again, fate can be transcended through free action from a position of total dependence on God; paradoxically, it is from the realisation of obligation within freedom that freedom from destiny arises.
