  Kita Ikki at AllExperts
Kita Ikki (北 一輝 Kita Ikki, April 3,1883 - August 19,1937) was a Japanese author and intellectual who was executed for his alleged role in the February 26 Incident.
Kita was an early critic of Japanese democracy, which he claimed had been corrupted by western values.
Kita's aggressive anti-western attitudes are believed to be one of the inspirations for the Imperial Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II.

 Nipponico - Kita Ikki

 Was Kita Ikki a Socialist?
Kita Ikki (1883-1937) was an ideologue and activist.
Hence Kita — executed for his part in instigating the rebellion (albeit he was essentially not involved) — is an important figure in the arguments that have raged among historians about what kind of state the Imperial Japan of the 1930s was.
Kita deserves to be understood, for only this way can we learn to distinguish in all types of cultural and historical contexts the way the right constantly tries to give itself a radical-sounding left-wing cloak.

The lives of Lu Xun, China's greatest modern writer, and Kita Ikki, the famous Japanese philosopher, are highlighted.
Both revolutionaries explored the traditional strengths and weaknesses of their societies, with Lu Xun writing scathing satires aimed at China's ineffective leadership.
Kita Ikki, on the other hand, watched with alarm as his radical teachings were distorted by right wing extremists and used to design a monstrous blueprint for a Japanese world empire.

Chapter 8: Making Japanese Through War and Peace, Part Two
Kita Ikki is, arguably, the most famous (or infamous) dissident nationalist of the 1930s in Japan.
Kita was critical of Japanese government actions (or lack of actions) in China during the late teens and the 1920s, and at one point the Japanese embassy ordered him to leave the country.
Kita advocated the forcible government confiscation of the largest corporations and landowners, and government-imposed limits (albeit rather large ones) on the amount of land or wealth that any one person or organization could amass.

In the early part of the twentieth century, several ultranationalist groups and writers, such as the Black Dragon Society and Kita Ikki, gained increasing popularity with their views that Japan should take leadership in Asia to expel foreign powers by means of a righteous war if necessary.
Many of these ultranationalist groups believed that the moral purity of the Yamato race and Japan's unique ancestry as descendants of the sun goddess Amaterasu entitled the Japanese to such a leadership role in Asia.

Suzuki’s major additions included Kiroku’s fateful encounters with the right-wing ideologue Kita Ikki, and the scene showing the heroine Michiko brutalized by army troops jogging through the snow.
But when one act of insubordination too many forces him to flee to a rural backwater in Aizu Prefecture, he finds no authority figure worthy of his respect until he glimpses a mysterious stranger in the bar run by the sensual, haiku-writing Misa.
To play Kita, Suzuki chose the virtually unknown Nikkatsu contract actor Midorigawa Hiroshi; in the Fighting Elegy book, Suzuki wrote that he picked the actor for his “insane eyes.” The heavy snow seen in the film’s closing scenes deliberately evokes the night of February 26, 1936, when Tokyo was blanketed in snow.
