 Port of Tacoma - About Us
On July 5, 1984, the Port of Tacoma established a sister port relationship with the Port of Kitakyushu.
In 1989, as part of a sister port gift exchange, the Port of Tacoma presented an Indian totem pole to the Port Kitakyushu, and the Port of Kitakyushu gave the Port of Tacoma a stainless steel monument that is displayed on Tacoma's waterfront.
Today, the port city on the island of Kyushu serves as the center of industry, economy and culture for its one million residents and the rest of Western Japan.

Located on the island of Kyushu, the monorail was the first to employ Hitachi's flat floor technology.
The 8.8 kilometer system runs from Kokura Rail Station in downtown Kitakyushu City to the residential neighborhoods in the southern part of the city (map courtesy of Kitakyushu Monorail).
We start at Kokura Station, which is the newest station to be added to the Kitakyushu Monorail.
