Kitaro (喜多郎 Kitarō) was born in February 4, 1953 as Masanori Takahashi (高橋正則 Takahashi Masanori) in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, as the son of shintoistic farmers.
His pseudonym "Kitaro" was given later by friends because of a Japanese television cartoon character, "Kitaro".
With her and her son Kitaro lives in Ward, outside Boulder, Colorado (USA) on a 180 acre (730,000 m²) spred and composes in his 2500 square foot (230 m²) home studio "Mochi House" (it is large enough to hold a 70 piece orchestra) his latest songs.

Kitaro’s score for this Oliver Stone film is an interesting mix of orchestra, synthesizers, vocals, and eastern instruments.
Kitaro is certainly no rookie to musical composition as he has earned multiple award nominations and awards, including a Golden Globe for this score.
Kitaro may have not had any experience prior to this in scoring a feature film, but one certainly does not hear any signs of rookie film music here.

In the Domo Records discography of Kitaro a release date for the album "In Person Digital" is 1978.
But the big joke is that I found a printed discography of Kitaro by Domo Records which supports my own discography - and it is in contradiction to the Internet discography of Domo.

Sometimes all that is missing is bass and the occasional tricky time changes (although Kitaro can beef it up when the need arises as he is a great guitarist) but what it may sometimes lack in time changes it more than makes up for with grand sweeping sound paintings of synths and keyboards.
The same can be said of the master instrumentalist Gandalf, most of his recent output can only be described as Progressive rock.
But in any case these are two outstanding cds and Kitaro is an exceptional musician.

To cut it short: I've heard of a lot of Kitaro in the past and to be honest, although I sincerely like his music, I had never expected him to surprise me with yet another album of his hand.
Opening with the 13 minute Yamadashi (quite long for Kitaro), consisting of two parts Tanne and Prayer, the opening is almost a soundsketch with some vague pointers to Kitaro's older work (in the sounds mostly).
There's still enough of that typical Kitaro style music for everyone to be happy, but especially with regards to the atmosphere building, this is a highpiont in the mans career.
