CITY was purchased outright by CHUM Limited in 1981 with the sale of Moses Znaimer's interest in the station.
CITY originally broadcast on the UHF band with a 31 kW signal on channel 79, since all the VHF licences in the Toronto area were taken.
The channel CITY broadcast on was changed from channel 79 to channel to 57 in July 1983, due to complaints that the station was interfering with mobile radio in the Toronto area, and so that channels 70 to 83 could be reclaimed for use by new AMPS mobile phones in the Americas.

The City of Kitchener, in southwestern Ontario, has a population of 190,399 (as of 2001 census (currently about 204,000 living in the city in 2004)).It is the seat of Waterloo Regional Municipality and is adjacent to the smaller City of Waterloo.
The city now boasts a new city hall, and a new farmer's market opened in 2004.Two university branch campuses in the downtown area are in the planning stages.
Kitchener is governed by a council of six councillors,representing wards or districts, and a mayor.
