		FOR KITING enthusiasts, the National Kite Festival at the Kaiser Sports Club, Discovery Bay, St. Ann, held on Sunday, has a long way to go, but for those who just came to fly a kite, it provided a day of fun in the sun.
		Most of the kites were of the mass produced variety, which sell on the street for $100 Butterflies, tigers and galactic battles gazed back from these kites which were flown by the young and the young in mind.
		Brown explained that though he had used kite plastic, the plastic was intended for smaller kites and thus when the wind caught hold of it, it tore.

		Ogata remembers his father making kites when he was a small child, but "he never passed on that knowledge." Two years ago, Ogata began making his own kites out of bamboo and waterproof paper.
		For the kites' supporting poles, he splits the bamboo into small pieces and whittles it down to appropriate size, approximately one-eighth of an inch thick, one-fourth of an inch wide and between two and a half and three feet in length.
		In indoor kiting, the fliers navigate the kites by attaching strings to three-foot-long sticks, which they control through movements of the wrist.
