 Kitsune
While kitsune stories do not have the diversity that a continent the size of North America afforded to the Coyote stories, there are still some 1500 years of known fox tales in Japan, and they are not necessarily consistent.
Most kitsune in stories are female—women in Japanese culture and many other patriarchies are also often seen with the bane/benefactor duality, the lady to be venerated and protected from manipulation set against the dangerous, manipulative femme fatale.
Stories rarely explain why kitsune wish to charm humans and entrap them in illusions—according to the fox-marriage legend, “the fox in the guise of a pretty woman will lead men into temptation to satisfy its desire,” but there is no explanation as to why a fox would desire men.

There is no 'guide to kitsune society' out there, all we have are the legends and stories, really, and as such, each person has to make their own conclusions to what all these stories mean.
My first two attempts at making this thesis on the kitsune were met with mixed reactions, though overall, I feel it was taken well enough, to warrant me attempting to make the information more organized for those who care to use it.

One of the best known would be the Kitsune, who are foxes (often possessing multiple tails or golden fur) who are capable of taking the forms of humans - and almost exclusively the forms of pretty maidens, to entice and waylay hapless men who serve as their prey.
One common theme about Kitsune is that while they are in human form, they always retain their tail (or tails), and hide them under skirts or robes.
In hybrid form, your character is somewhere between fox and human, being human-sized and walking upright, but possessing a fox tail (or tails), fox ears, and quite possibly a vulpine muzzle and fur.
