If you walk to Kjerag this early you have to be prepared to walk through some snow when you reach the plateau.

Tuesday's fatal accident is the ninth at Kjerag since the first jump was made in 1994.

The number of jumps required to qualify to jump at Kjerag increased to 250, there was more supervision due to the inception of the SBK, and an instructor for the season was brought in, so in 2001 there were only seven minor accidents and no fatalities.
A jumper must have 250 skydives to participate in jumping at Kjerag, and if they have less than 15 BASE jumps, they are required to take the SBK First Jump Course.

Some go there because Preikestolen has become too crowded, some people go to jump onto Kjeragbolten and quite a lot of BASE jumpers go there to dive of the mighty cliffs (video taken in July 2005, about 2 MB).
From the middle of June to the middle of August you can catch the ferry daily at 10 am (more information on can be found on www.stavangerske.no).
You can also do a combination: in July 2005 we drove to Kjerag and we took the boat home from Lysebotn at about 15.30 in the afternoon.

The first jump course SBK arranges at Kjerag really is worth taking, especially the pendulator is a good help for the exit training.
I did the FJC at Kjerag under Chris and JJ a few years ago and it was fantastic.

Last year I saw a group of people from Brasil doing their FJC at Kjerag.
If you look at the list of Kjerag fatalities, it is more than likely that each person would have survived if they had of been jumping NRGB instead.
