  Serge Klarsfeld
Serge Klarsfeld, author and attorney, has published a dozen books on the fate of French Jewry during World War II and has been active in bringing Nazi and Vichy officials to trial for the crimes they committed.
Serge Klarsfeld is Graduate of Superior Studies in History at the Sorbonne.
He revealed to the French public the crimes of Vichy and is seen as the inspiration of President Jacques Chirac's declaration that officially recognizes the responsibility of France during World War II.

In 1943, an 8-year-old Serge Klarsfeld, his mother and siblings hid beneath a false bottom in a closet in their apartment in Nice when SS troops commanded by Brunner arrested his father and deported him to Auschwitz, where he was gassed.
Klarsfeld does not know whether Brunner is alive, but if he is still in Syria, is determined to ensure his final days are uneasy ones filled with the knowledge that the next knock at the door could be the one he has dreaded for more than a half century.

Klarsfeld confronted Kiesinger with shouts of "Nazi, Nazi" and slapped his face, bringing the German chancellor's wartime past into the public spotlight.
Klarsfeld speculated that the Syrian government, under the iron-fisted rule of the late President Assad and now his son, regarded Brunner as an asset.

But Mr Klarsfeld, citing his own research, believes the number of Jews denied sanctuary in Switzerland was less than 5,000.
Mr Klarsfeld said most of the Jews and other refugees refused entry into Switzerland were sent to the Rivesaltes camp in France where research showed "very few Jews came from the Swiss border".
