I've always been intriegued by coffee cakes as I've never seen a coffee flavoured coffee cake.
It seems (after a little research on Epicurious), that a coffee cake is just a rich, sweet cake-like bread served at breakfast or with coffee.
Traditionally, despite the butter enrichment, it is quite a dry bread and is eaten along with your cup of tea or coffee.
