Klaus Teuber: When the games Entdecker and Loewenherz were published in 1996 and 1997, respectively, I thought that both of them were mature and airtight in terms of their design.

The Labyrinth - Board Games - Klaus Teuber
Klaus Teuber first had a game nominated for Spiel des Jahres in 1988, taking the win with Barbarossa und die Rätselmeister.
It is a classic Teuber game, with lots of different mechanisms; like his better previous efforts the mechanisms work together nicely to form an interesting, and for Teuber very quick, game.
Of Teuber's games without "Siedler" in their name, I can most readily recommend Entdecker, one of the few games I've enjoyed playing both with two players and multi-player.

Special K - Klaus Teuber   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Teuber's next release, Timberland, is an auction game that has the players trying to grow trees in a forest, using seeds, a boar (who distributes the seeds), sunshine (to grow the trees), and a woodsman (who chops 'em down).
Teuber also produced four other little remembered titles in the 1989-1990 timeframe, but he could surely be forgiven for this, since he was getting ready to release a game whose impact would extend far beyond the borders of Germany.
Well, unlike Teuber's earlier designs, this one is clearly a gamer's game, without even the pretense of suitability for families and other casual gamers.

Between the success of Die Siedler von Catan and the staggering number of products it's fostered, it can be difficult to mentally disengage Klaus Teuber from the game.
Adel verpflichtet (Funagain, $29; Adam Spielt, 39.95 DM) is one of Teuber's most famous games (probably the most famous until Die Siedler), and was the first available in English.
Of Teuber's games without "Siedler" in their name, I can most readily recommend Entdecker which is one of the few games I've enjoyed playing both with two players and multi-player.
