The Kleine Scheidegg (2061 m, 46°34.74′N 7°57.18′E) is a pass below and between the mountains, Eiger and Lauberhorn in the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland.
On the Kleine Scheidegg are hotels, as well as the station of the two rack railways, the Wengernalpbahn (since 1893) and the Jungfraubahn (since 1896).
In winter, the Kleine Scheidegg is the center of the ski area around Grindelwald and Wengen.

At Kleine Scheidegg passengers transfer to the Jungfraubahn for the continuation of the journey to the highest railway station in Europe at Jungfraujoch.
Originally operated by steam locomotives, electrificalion of the line from Lauterbrunnen to Kleine Scheidegg was completed on 3rd June 1909, followed by the section between Grindelwald and Kleine Scheidegg a year later, using 1500V d.c., with electric locomotives positioned, for safety reasons, at the lower end of the trains.
However, a triangular junction specially built into the mountainside at Kleine Scheidegg allows the train to be turned if necessary so that it can also be used on the other side of the pass.

Kleine Scheidegg is reached by taking the cog train from Grindelwald.
From the Kleine Scheidegg station you can take the lift to the top of the Lauberhorn and then either ski back toward Kleine Scheidegg or loop around to the Wixi lift and Wengen, more or less following the famous Lauberhorn downhill race course.
These runs between Männlichen and Kleine Scheidegg are a delight for all skiers.

The restaurant at Faulhorn was not as good as the other ones we have been to on this trip, but it is the oldest mountain hotel in Europe and all supplies are brought in by helicopter.
This is a very easy hike, with a restaurant at Kleine Scheidegg for lunch or snack (or take the train to Wengen).
The views along the trail were again spectacular and we ended up at Kleine Scheidegg, right under the Eiger.

However, the better walk is along the ridge more or less to the SSE to Kleine Scheidegg past the Tschuggen.
There are two paths down from Kleine Scheidegg to Grund, one under the Eiger which goes through every station (so you can cop out on the train) and the other through Büstiglen which starts NE and goes into the woods.
The really hardy can take the bus to Grosse Scheidegg and walk the whole ridge but it is also pleasant to split the trip over two days, from Grosse Scheidegg to First and walk down as the first (sorry) part.

From Mannlichen, you can walk to Klein Scheidegg where the views of Grindlewald, the Wetterhorn, The Eiger and the JungFrau are in clear view if the weather is sunny.
This way is preferable in many respects because the Eiger is directly in front of you as you approach Kleine Scheidegg.
The hike from the ridge to Kleine Scheidegg is not bad however.
