Yes, radio djs had used this technique previously, but not to create a continuous mix of music; furthermore Francis started paying attention to the energy and feeling of each song and began putting the songs together into sets that corresponded with the energy he was getting from the dancers on the floor.
Grasso developed and refined many of these techniques when he moved his headquarters to Sanctuary, a hedonistic club in the Hell's Kitchen section of Manhattan, and presided over the dance floor there until it was closed by city authorities in 1972.
When the club closed, he worked as a DJ off and on until 1981, when he left the profession for good and found a job working in construction.

When i first met Fearne i was told by Nick that they described themselves as an upbeat acoustic band.
However several weeks later i caught them as the house band at another venue called Klute and watched them make 100 people sing along to Green Eye Shadow (a song i have included on this account for you to enjoy).
They claim to have been a band for a 20 months and they all met as a group for the first time at the first gig they did together.

Francis Grasso was an American disc jockey from New York City, best known for inventing the technique of slip-cueing and later beatmatching which is the foundation of the modern club dj's technique.
It was there and at subsequent New York City clubs such as Tarots and his most famous nightclub, Sanctuary (featured in the movie Klute) where Francis perfected his craft.
Though he died in March of 2001, the skills and techniques he pioneered remain the foundation of what you will hear in a modern nightclub.
