		He grew up in Basel and Cameroon and studied German and history at the University of Basel where he graduated as a doctor in modern Swiss history in 1977.
		Finally, the Basel Conservatory issued Beat Raaflaub the diploma for "Teaching School Music" and "Choir Direction".
		In 1976 he was nominated Director of the Jugendmusikschule Muttenz near Basel.

		Formed in 1927, the Knabenkantorei, Basel's famous boys' choir, celebrates 70 years of singing history in 1997.
		Choristers from the Knabenkantorei are also given solo parts in city opera-houses in Basel, Berne and Freiburg (Germany) as well as in oratorios.
		Since its establishment in the year 1585, the choir is embedded into the history of the St. Ursenkirche in Solothurn, which is considered today as the cathedral of the Basel diocese--and as the oldest swiss boys' choir.

		The Knabenkantorei Basel (= KKB) was created in 1927 created as "Singknaben der evangelisch-reformierten Kirche Basel-Stadt (Singing Boys of the Reformation Evangelist Church Basel City).

		His Concert Mass, a major work for symphony orchestra and choir, received its world premier at Carnegie Hall and has since been performed in Australia at the Sydney Opera House, in Berlin, and in Russia by the Novgorod Symphony.
