Knebworth Home for Boys was founded when a sickly London Rector, Mr Herbert Edward Jones, was advised by his doctor to live in the country for the good of his poor health.
He had not wanted to move out of London and end his work with impoverished children from the slums, so when he saw a cottage in the small Hertfordshire village of Knebworth he knew he had to convert it into a home for London boys.
During the building work, Knebworth Home was temporarily closed (1912-1914) and the boys were sent to other Society homes.

As a big Tears For Fears fan, the 1990 Knebworth Concert was the final performance for the duo of Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal.
This was my impetus for purchasing the "Live At Knebworth" DVD, but it also gave me a chance to see many of the legendary acts perform on one stage.
In a lot of ways, the 1990 Knebworth Concert would be almost a final hurrah for the fabled 'British Invasion' of the rock era.

Edward Antony James Bulwer-Lytton, Viscount Knebworth (1903-1933) was drawn in 1910.
Antony (as he was known), Viscount Knebworth, was born in 1903 in London, son of Victor, the Second Earl of Lytton, and his wife Pamela Chichele-Plowden (who at one time had been unofficially engaged to the young Winston Churchill).
He was christened at the Chapel Royal, St. James's, and named Edward for his godfather, King Edward VII and James for his second godfather, Viscount Cranborne (late the Marquess of Salisbury).

A small detached part of Letchworth parish, including Burley Farm, was transferred to Knebworth when Letchworth Garden City was created in the earky 20th century.
Chauncy in 1700 as ‘a large pile of brick with a fair quadrangle in the middle of it, seated upon a dry hill, in a fair large park, stocked with the best deer in the country, excellent timber and well wooded and from thence you may behold a most lovely prospect to the East.’
On the back of the postcard someone had written Harry MacDonald (a Yorkshire man) came south and brought this cottage in 1937 (rent 95/- a week and later brought it for £1,000) Built his model village over the years and also carved serious subjects.
