Wiki - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wiki is sometimes interpreted as the acronym for 'what I know, is', which describes the knowledge contribution, storage and exchange function.
A single page in a wiki is referred to as a "wiki page", while the entire body of pages, which are usually highly interconnected via hyperlinks, is "the wiki"; in effect, a very simple, easier-to-use database.
Wiki wiki was the first Hawaiian term he learned on his first visit to the islands, when the airport counter agent directed him to take the wiki wiki bus between terminals.

Procedural knowledge - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Procedural knowledge or know-how is the knowledge of how to perform some task.
Know-how is different from other kinds of knowledge such as propositional knowledge in that it can be directly applied to a task.
One advantage of procedural knowledge is that it can involve more senses, such as hands-on experience, practice at solving problems, understanding of the limitations of a specific solution, etc. Thus know-how can frequently eclipse theory.

Wiki Presentation   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Wikis are somewhat different from blogs in that they are not only a discussion medium for visiters, but also become documents compiled from multiple voices.
An example of a wiki with poor insight to this aspect is one that reflects single owner.
I've found that wikis should be used when many people gather to work towards a particular end result, or on a particular project where collaborative heads and a variety of thought processes will speed up or increase the quality of the final product.

 Why Wiki Works Not
Wiki is somewhat protected from spam, ads, and trolls by the ability of its users to fix adulterated pages.
Discussion of wikis is one of the missions of MeatballWiki and CommunityWiki.
Wiki is wider, so more frustrating to read if doing long reading and hours of reading, or if you are not in full concentration, or if you are a bit tired.

Know-Nothing movement - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The fact that many of the new immigrants were Roman Catholic sat poorly with much of the United States's largely Protestant population.
Thus activists opposed to immigration began splitting off from the major parties and forming secret groups, coordinating their votes and throwing their weight en masse behind candidates sympathetic to their cause (regardless of political party).
This movement in effect gained control of a large number of local offices, especially in the North, through the early 1850s ("in effect" because the officeholders were still technically either Democrats or Whigs, as the Know-Nothings were not yet an actual party).

Hi folks The wiki is growing far faster than I ever dreamed possible, and that's largely thanks to the doc teams efforts both at creating wiki pages and at organising them.
I know that moving wiki formats is traumatic so we are conducting this experiment with all-new content to try to minimise the impact of the testing.

This is a crucial issue for me, because I have long wanted to proselytize for the use of Wikis among my peers in the language teaching community, both for their use and their students, but the violence done to some of the basic elements of human language is a hell of a deterrent...

Across the whole wiki there is a hypertext structure, but on a given page, within the versatility of your command of your natural language, you can say whatever needs to be said.
If you're reading something in a wiki, I didn't want it to matter to you whether it was written a year ago, a day ago, or just a minute ago.
With wiki, practicing programmers who don't have time to master the literature and get a column in a journal that's going to be read have a place where they could say things that are important to them.

 ASU2: know.wiki
It's "weaknesses" are very basic creative design possibilities and fairly slow and conservative development (which is sometimes benefit for technical users) in terms of using new technologies and standards while trying to keep the compatibility with most ancient standards (text-only web browsers).
Although there are few more Wiki clones based on different programing languages (Java, hypercard, C++ or other) their features are very limited and don't have strong support of developers or wider user base.
Exception from this is perl-based system of Everything2 which although is not Wiki system as such, is using the same concepts and has developted over the years into one of the biggest on-line communities and is a good example of succesfull collaborative environment which is based on sofisticated peer reviewing and moderation.
