 History of Knox County, Maine
Knox County is situated on the south-eastern side of Penobscot Bay, and includes its islands south of Isleboro, and west of Isle au Haut Bay.
It was organized in 1860, being formed from Lincoln and Waldo, and named for General Knox, the friend of Washington, who was a resident of the county during the later years of his life.
Knox had given the name, Montpelier, was opened with a grand feast, to which were invited all the neighboring inhabitants—rich and poor; and here he continued for the remainder of his life to dispense the most bountiful hospitality.

 The Knox County, Maine, Democratic Committee Bylaws
In accordance with the Rules of the Maine Democratic Party, the County Committee shall consist of a minimum of three (3) members from each municipality in Knox County, one of whom shall be the municipal chair.
An officer of the County Committee may be removed because of inaction or impropriety by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of County Committee members present and voting at a meeting called for that purpose by written notice sent to all County Committee members at least seven (7) days prior to said meeting.
These Bylaws of the Knox County Democratic Committee were adopted June 11, 1991 and confirmed at the biennial meetings held January 12, 1993, January 10, 1995, and January 12, 1997 at Stella Maris, Rockland, Maine by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the membership present.
