Knut Wicksell, Biography: The Concise Encyclopedia of Economics: Library of Economics and Liberty
Economist Knut Wicksell made his name among the Swedish public with a series of provocative lectures on the causes of prostitution, drunkenness, poverty, and overpopulation.
Wicksell also emphasized that an efficient allocation of resources is not necessarily just, because the allocation depends crucially on the preexisting distribution of income, and nothing guarantees that this preexisting distribution is just.
By 1890 Wicksell had returned to Stockholm, but being "too notorious" and unqualified to teach—he held degrees in mathematics, but economics instructors were then required to have formal degrees in law and economics—he returned to free-lance writing and lecturing.

Knut Wicksell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wicksell was born in Stockholm, Sweden on December 20, 1851.
Wicksell was enamored with the theory of Léon Walras (the Lausanne school), Eugen von Böhm-Bawerk (the Austrian school), and David Ricardo, and sought a synthesis of the three theoretical visions of the economy.
Wicksell's theory would be a strong influence in Keynes's ideas of growth and recession, and also in Joseph Schumpeter's "creative destruction" theory of the business cycle.

Wicksell (1898 [1936: 70-76]) described the “pure credit system” as an economy in which all payments are made by transfers between bank accounts, and in which all deposits earn interest.
Wicksell’s (1898 [1936]) originally presented his pure credit economy as formed by a system of profit maximizing banks (or a single profit maximizer “Ideal Bank” with several branches) where gold is no longer used as means of payment but remains the standard of value of the economy.
Wicksell’s followers made use of both the centralized and the decentralized version. Hayek (1929 [1933: 144-76] described modern banking as a system that is extremely “elastic in the credit supply” even though each bank may be acting strictly in accordance with the principles of “sound banking”.

 Wicksell's Cumulative Process
Knut Wicksell's (1898, 1906) theory of the "cumulative process" of inflation remains the first decisive swing at the idea of money as a "veil" as well as Say's Law.
Wicksell's theory claims, indeed, that increases in the supply of money leads to rises in price levels, but the original increase is endogenous, created by the relative conditions of the financial and real sectors.
Primarily, Wicksell regarded that the disparity between the natural and money rate arises largely because "the normal rate rises or falls whilst the loan rate remains unchanged or only tardily follows it" (Wicksell, 1906: p.205).

And that means that the technology sector, which is either discounting a big economic slowdown or even a recession, has become too gloomy in its assessment of future revenues and profits.
In his excellent article, Steve Liesman writes that Wicksell "refocuses the concept of interest rates as a price for money, one which is set by market forces to be followed by the Fed, not a tool to engineer higher or lower growth or unemployment rates."
