They did finish a domestic airport in Trat in 2003 (otherwise it is a five hour busride from Bangkok which turns most people off) but there is only one flight a day so it has not made things much busier.
Just get on the boat and pay on the island, the bitch in the bus station will tell you you need to buy a ticket from her but she has a habit of not paying the island after that so ignore her.
Koh Kham used to close down from May to October due to shit weather in the wet season (probably more windy than rainy) but now they stay open, though the boat may not run and you have to go through Koh Maak.

Came down to Ko Chang for Xmas, the staff at the Windy Guesthouse in Trang advised us to go over to Ko Wai for snorkeling.
Great island, stayed at Ko Wai Pakrang in a 2 bed concrete bungalow for 400 baht a night, had ceiling fan and bathroom.
Now we are over on Ko Mak, staying right on the beach at Fantacia for 150 baht a night, right across from the island Ko Kham that has good snorkeling also (the Ko Kham Resort is fullybooked).
