The two major coalitions seen in this elections were the K-4 (Koalisyon ng Katapatan at Karanasan sa Kinabukasan), of the administration, and the KNP (Koalisyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino), the dominant opposition.
The Koalisyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino (Coalition of United Filipinos), or KNP, is the coalition of the dominant opposition.
In the legislative elections, voters elected twelve Senators (half the members of the Senate), who are elected at large with the whole country voting as one constituency, and all 208 members of the House of Representatives, who are elected from single-member districts.

The President spoke before a large crowd of supporters at Plaza Roma, in front of the Manila Cathedral where a holy mass and a prayer-vigil were held prior to her filing of candidacy at the nearby Commission on Elections (Comelec).
With the President and De Castro during the filing of candidacies were the senatoriables of the newly-formed Koalisyon ng Katapatan at Karanasan sa Kinabukasan (K-4) which will carry the administration slate.
"Ang importante sa eleksiyon ay matandaan ng mga botante kung ano iyong plataporma ng grupo kaya ginamit iyong K-4 (What is important is for the voters to understand the platform of government of the candidates that’s why the use of K-4)," he said.

The President made the shift to federalism one of the campaign platforms of her Koalisyon ng Katapatan at Karanasan para sa Kinabukasan (K-4) in a speech she delivered before filing her certificate of candidacy at the Commission on Elections.

"Lahat ng ito po ay nakatuon sa lahat ng serbisyo na ibibigay sa buong isla ng Mindanao (all of these are focused on the services to be given to the whole island of Mindanao)," she said.
Araw ng Dabaw, the President admitted that she and the rest of the Koalisyon ng Katapatan at Karanasan sa Kinabukasan (K-4) are pushing for amendments in the Constitution that will pave the way for the establishment of federalism in the country.
