Many citizen's groups in Kobe are active in promoting awareness of this and other American war crimes against the Japanese civilian population as well as the equally oft-marginalized Tokyo firebombings and brutal execution of Imperial Army officers for the mere slapping of American POWs.
Much of these groups' campaigns center on 'calling a war crime a war crime' and condemning the American military tradiition of giving little to no value to 'non-white' lives.
Japan regardless remains the nation most densely populated by US military installations and personnel, more so than even any country under actual occupation by the US, and hence especially to those most affected by this presence such as the people of Okinawa, the "Kobe Formula" remains an abysmal failure.
