The invention of Kodachrome, the first viable (and some would argue all-time best) color film to hit the market, is an unlikely story that challenges our notion of what scientists should be.
Thus, Kodachrome is easy to manufacture (it's like three layers of standard fl and white film, each sensitive to a different color), but requires multiple processing steps and precise control to add the color through a re-exposure process.
Due to the fine grain and high contrast, Kodachrome was well suited to making color separations for printing, thus it was used by most of the weekly picture magazines and other publishers.

Kodachrome is a fl and white film formulated almost 60 years ago as a true color film.
It is not uncommon to fins Kodachrome films shot over 50 years ago to look just as good when they were first shot!Interestingly, Kodachrome processing is a very labor intensive process, that needs precision chemistry and that is why it is hard to find a place that will process this film.
Kodachrome 40 is tungsten balanced and will require an 85 filter for outdoor use.

Kodachrome   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Kodachrome films were at first intended for use in film cameras with film width of 8, 9.5, 16 and 35mm.
There is a subtle difference between Kodachrome and E-6 processes: with Kodachrome the amount of dye/coupler and the density of the image will be determined by the amount of silver halide present for colour development and with E-6 the density is limited by the amount of incorporated coupler.
In the Kodachrome process the silver image is exactly replaced by the dye image and in E-6 the silver halide and the dye image co-exist till the moment that the silver has been bleached out.

KODAK: End Dates for Kodachrome Processing
Kodachrome Super 8 film must be received by Kodak's lab in Renens, Switzerland by September 25, 2006 in order for that film to obtain Kodak- certified processing.
After that date, Kodachrome 16mm film processing costs, as well as the responsibility for shipping that product to Dwayne's, must be borne by the customer.
More detail on the processing of Kodak's Kodachrome 35mm slide film can be found under a separate press release specific to that marketplace.

photo.net Forum: Polaroid or Nikon Scanner for Kodachrome?
For instance, in Pop Photo's September 1998 roundup of scanners they said of Kodachrome: "...most of the scanners tested have trouble color balancing that film."; The scanners I'm considering are the Polaroid SprintScan 4000 or the Nikon Super Coolscan 2000.
Kodachrome *does* have color layers (similar to Ektachrome), once it is processed..
I always thought Kodachrome was a silver based emulsion in which the color dyes are added during development, thus not having the color emulsion layers NikonTech mentions.

 Kodachrome Basin Camping
Kodachrome Basin State Park, located in the heart of what geologists call the Grand Staircase, is one of Utah’s best camping destinations for families.
Kodachrome Basin is situated in a kind of natural cul-de-sac, a hidden valley that abuts the rugged badlands of the Kaiparowits Plateau.
Against a backdrop of blue-gray shale cliffs to the east, and under the shadow of the polychrome scarps of Bryce Canyon to the west, Kodachrome’s wondrous tableau of towering limestone spires rise from the desert dust.

Kodachrome Basin State Park's main attraction is groupings of massive limestone pipes.
Geologists suspect that these pipes used to be underground vents that filled up with harder limestone material, still remaining today, even after the neighboring multicolored rock had weathered away.

Kodachrome slide film uses a unique dye that responds differently from other slide films.
Due to the nature of the dye and the Kodachrome film development process, Digital ICE™ can misinterpret certain image detail as a defect thus rendering your image poorly.
We will use compressed air to help eliminate as much loose dust and debris as possible prior to scanning, however imbedded dirt, mildew or other defects may still be apparent on your scans.

We wanted an old Kodachrome look, but because of a variety of circumstances, it made more sense to shoot color neg and get the look in post than to shoot Kodachrome to begin with.

KODACHROME 64 offers slide shooters all of the contrast that they need, but with a minor caveat.
KODACHROME 64 is also an excellent studio slide film when used with filters designed to negate the effect of bright tungsten floods and their yellowish cast.
It can be inconvenient to use due to its relatively slow speed and the time it takes to get slides back, but when they are delivered to you, you will know that the time and effort have all been worthwhile.

As I understood it the use of ROC is relevant to scanning images with degraded dye layers, something which might be useful in scanning old Kodacolor negatives perhaps but irrelevant to Kodachrome images, which contain dyes that are nearly archival.
ICE4 ROC on the LS-9000 has additional functionality with regard to Kodachrome, but to learn of it you have to stumble upon it in, of all places, Kodak's ICE page:
Scanning with the Kodachrome option shows little effect in correcting the blue cast characteristic of Nikon scanners.
