Kodava Thakk, often called Coorgi or Coorg language in English, is the original language of the south Karnataka district of Kodagu.
It is the primary language of Kodavas, but a large portion of other communities and tribes in Kodagu also converse in Kodava Thakk.
Kodava Thakk has no written script and usually Kannada script is used to write it.

It belongs to the Dravidian languages family, and is related to and influenced by Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam.
Ethnologists have speculated that the female ancestry of the Kodavas has been from parts of Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Kerala and thus Kodava Thakk shows a great amount of dependence on Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam.
Kodava Thakk also has words which do not sound similar to words in other Indian languages.

An ethnically dressed coorg woman Kodava Thakk, also known as Coorg Language, is the primary language spoken in Kodagu.
Kodavas are a martial race and have jealously hung on to their independence.
Kodavas defeated Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan's armies many a times and proved invaluable allies to the British in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War, in which the Sultan of Mysore Tipu Sultan was killed.

Kodava Takk or Kodava takka, (Kannada script:ಕೊಡವ ತಕ್‌) is the original language of the south Karnataka district of Kodagu.
A majority of the words are common between Kodava Takk and Beary bashe, a dialect of Dakshina Kannada spoken by the Beary and Belchada community.
Kodava Takk has two more vowels, namely, /ï/ high central unrounded vowel and /ë/ mid central unrounded vowel which are also distinguished as short and long.

It may be recalled that ummathat and kolatta were not practised in the village for about a century now.
