The Kodokan Institute (講道館, Kōdōkan) is the headquarters of the Judo world.
The Kodokan also issues ranks and many judo fl belts around the world become Kodokan members and have their ranks registered with the Kodokan.
There are eight floors and a basement to the Kodokan Dojo each serving purposes for housing, training, and research by judoka.

But I doubt all yudansha rank is Kodokan approved as one has nothing to do with the other.
The Kodokan Institute runs its own tourmaments, ranks those who are schooled in judo at the Kodokan, and the ranking criteria is probably the only thing similar.
As the Kodokan has recently (1997) announced that it will no longer grade anyone ever again to judan, the highest Kodokan Judo rank is now kyudan.

I am trying to find the person or committee in the USA that represents the Kodokan Judo Institute regarding membership application,fees required,etc.,etc., without much success...The USJA office told me to contact the USJI and in both cases no results...
Several years ago I joined the Kodokan and went through Sensei Y. Yonezuka Cranford, N.J., but the phone numbers I recently tried for him are out of service..
Thanks for your taking the time to reply and that also goes for everyone who shared their thoughts..I found what I was looking for and everything has been taken care of..
