Sichos In English: Eve Of 6th Day Of Tishrei, 5745
"Kodshim" is the concept of light, and the service associated with it is to add to light.
From the viewpoint of kodshim, the beginning point is light, and the service associated with it is to increase in light, to the highest level of "darkness is as light"; thus the night follows the day.
In matters of kodshim, holy things, the service of the "holy people" -- whose holiness is drawn from above since their souls are "verily a part of G-d above" -- begins with light and holiness.

The first are the "kodshei kodshim" - sacrifices with a major degree of sanctity which only the priests might eat, and then only in a sacred precinct, such as an ola or a mincha.
The second are the "kodshim kalim" (sacrifices with a minor degree of sanctity) which may be eaten by everyone, such as shelamim of the free-will or votive kind.
In comparison, kodshei kodshim are integrally related to atonement, and usually there is an obligation to bring them (the free-will ola which is not eaten at all).

Sanctified objects such as teruma or kodshim may still be eaten during the fifth hour since one is not allowed to destroy sanctified objects (Rashi).
However, even R. Gamliel admits that kodshim may be destroyed based on the rabbinic decree prohibiting chametz during the sixth hour.
Teruma and kodshim of chametz may not be burnt in the FIFTH hour, but may be thus destroyed in the SIXTH hour.

Although the mitzvah of learning Torah is fulfilled by learning any part of the Torah, even Kodshim and Taharot [which have little practical application when the Temple is not standing], nevertheless, man's primary study must be that which leads to action.
Learning the laws of Kodshim / the sacrifices, although they also are of no practical consequence today, is very, very lofty.
It says in the midrash that it is regarding Kodshim that the verse says (Tehilim 19:9): "The command of Hashem is clear, enlightening the eyes." The midrash lists this as nearly the highest form of Torah learning.

There is a tractate in the Babylonian Talmud order of Kodshim of the same name which deals with the laws of Temurah as well as other issues relating to sanctified objects.
Like many tractates in the order of Kodshim, Temurah was not often learned by many Talmud scholars.
Its reopening was included in the general Kodshim Renaissance brought about by the Brisk yeshivas.

Also, they consider it rewarding to apply their considerable skills to a portion of the Torah which is largely abandoned, a choice which the Chafetz Chaim compared to mining for diamonds in an abandoned but still rich mine, rather than in a place where all of the other miners are searching.
The Chafetz Chaim, by contrast, devoted himself to bringing the study of Kodshim to the general public.

In his introduction to his son-in-law's work, Avodas Hakorbonos, the Chofetz Chaim laments the fact that the laws of Kodshim are almost ignored and treated like a meis mitzvah, an unburied corpse.
This treasure of a sefer covers the procedure of all the korbonos in the Beis Hamikdosh and was described as, "A clear, concise Shulchan Oruch for kohanim to master the halachos of Kodshim." The haskomos of the sefer from prewar Europe include HaRav Chaim Ozer Grodzensky and HaRav Chaim Brisker.

Judaism rejects this claim, believing instead that the prophets criticism's were meant to correct the negative behavior of those Israelites who were sinning, and not as a rejection of the sacrificial system or the Jewish religion.
The Mishnah and Talmud devote a very large section, known as a seder, to the study and analysis of this subject known as Kodshim, whereby all the detailed varieties of korbanot are enumerated and analyzed in great logical depth, such as kodshim kalim ("simple sacrifices") and kodash kodashim ("holy of holies").
His advice was taken seriously and today there are a number of well-established Haredi institutions in Israel that focus solely on the subject of the korbanot, kodshim, and the needs of the future Jewish Temple, such as the Brisk yeshivas.

Nevertheless, he replies, if they allowed themselves to enter the Kodesh Kodshim with the Ketores, something which only a Kohen Gadol is permitted to do (since the prohibition of entering the Kodesh Kodshim with only four garments had not yet been said), they clearly considered themselves to be Kohanim Gedolim.
And if he still requires a Korban as an atonement, then the prohibition extends up to the time that he has brought his Korban, as the Torah writes in Tazri'a (12:4) "She may neither touch any Kodesh not enter the Mikdash until her days of Taharah are complete".

Based upon Jewish law, however, someone who has immersed in a mikveh in the morning becomes pure enough to eat kodshim kalim (including terumah, the kohen's portion) after sunset on that day.
The Gemara in Makkot 14b and in Yevamot 75a states that one who immerses in a mikveh for reasons of impurity is considered a tivul yom, or day immersed, until sunset at which point he may partake of terumah and other kodshim kalim.
The answer is that, as Rashi points out, the woman's immersion is considered as an "extended day."  This means to say that the first sunset after immersion is not considered a "sunset" regarding her purity and ability to eat terumah.

It is forbidden to use shemen serayfa for holiday candles even if the candles are lit before night, because the woman takes the holiday upon herself in lighting the candles and it is considered, therefore, as though the oil were being burned on the holiday itself.
