Statement by a group of students in the USA (University of Wisconsin at Madison) about Dr. K. Elst, from Chingari's ...   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
We, the members of Chingari, are dismayed and outraged that Koenraad Elst is being taken seriously as a scholar at the upcoming University of Wisconsin South Asian Studies conference.
Elst's hatred of Islam and secularists, and championing of the extreme Hindu right-wing agenda, is abundant in his writings.
Elst attempts to claim that just like pro-Nazi "revisionists" or "negationists" who try to deny the factual history of the Holocaust, pro-Muslim "negationists" (read secular intellectuals) systematically try to conceal what he sees as Muslims' attempts to annihilate the Hindus.

Elst doesn't mention the fact that the activities of Khwaja Hasan Nizami and other luminaries of the Tabligh/Tanzeem movement were a reaction to the massive conversion efforts of Arya Samaj and not vice versa.

One recent author with a degree in Indology is Koenraad Elst who is at least aware of the context of Indo-European studies.
Koenraad Elst, a major proponent of the Out of India theory, has proposed that any Dravidian in Sanskrit can still be explained via the OIT.
Proponents of the OIT, such as Koenraad Elst, argue that it would have been expectable that migrations, and possibly an Urheimat were mentioned in the Rigveda if the Aryans had only arrived in India some centuries before the composition of the earliest Rigvedic hymns.

 Elst on Habib
The writings of the Dutch historian Koenraad Elst have recently become popular among the "Hindutvavadis" of India.
He claims that official (or officially sanctioned) history in India is subject to "negationism" - the denial or playing down of Muslim crimes in the past, as well as of a history of Hindu-Muslim conflict.
Elst's distinction: "Not the Muslims are guilty, but Islam", is a perplexing one.

Elst's latest book, an expanded version of the thesis which earned him his Ph.D. from the University of Leuven in Belgium, is Decolonising the Hindu Mind, a study of the ideas which have propelled the Hindu revivalist movement.
Elst is disturbed by the anti-democratic strains of some Hindu organisations of millennia, Hindu India had been the proverbially rich country, and for long, the wily money making Hindu bania had been a favourite enemy image projected by the Indian Muslims and leftists.

IndiaStar: Koenraad Elst, The Saffron Swastika The Notion of Hindu "Fascism," reviewed by Ramesh N. Rao
Elst argues that the term "fascist", originally marketed as a demon-term by the Communists, has now been used not just by Marxist academics but equally assiduously by Christian and Islamic spokespersons in their willful and dangerous campaign of calumny against all ideas and groups Hindu.
Elst carefully constructs his arguments and shows that the complicated and intricate story of anti-Judaism (Catholic and Muslims anti-Judaism as well as Communist/Stalinist hounding of Jews in the Soviet Union and in Eastern Europe) was beyond the ken of not just Golwalkar but most other Indian and Western leaders at that time.
Elst concludes his argument by pointing out that the best proof that the Hindutva movement is not fascist is the proliferation of publications that criticize, berate, and misrepresent Hindutva, not only when the BJP/RSS was in the opposition, but also when it is now in power.

Is Islam Dying? Europe Certainly Is   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
If Dr Elst is right, and the intimidation of adversaries by the islamists is a proof of Islam’s inherent weakness, the refusal of the West to stand up to the bullies and to defend and protect their victims is proof of an even greater weakness.
I am inclined to suspect that the intolerance of radical Muslims, even if directed against the ‘enemy’ in the West, such as Danish cartoonists and the Pope, is primarily intended to intimidate and terrorize people who grew up in Muslim societies and families, in order to prevent their apostasy.
Perhaps, as Dr Elst fears, Islam in its stage of decline might, by the mid-21st century, succeed in conquering Europe and becoming the old continent’s dominant religion.
