Kofu City, the capital of Yamanashi Prefecture is located almost in the center of the prefecture, surrounded by Japan Southern Alps and Oku-chichibu mountain ranges, some of the mountains are as high as almost 3,000 meters.
Kofu is also famous as one of the leading jewelers' towns in the world, with tradition of craftsmanship and polishing technique of precious stones, and has been admired of its jewelry handicraft technique as the No.1 in the world.
Kofu is famous of its fruit growing; visitors enjoy strawberry picking in spring and grapes picking during summer and autumn.

We walked to Kofu castle after the Mayor's office and saw the mountains surrounding Kofu.
They also had penguins, porcupines, pigs (maybe they are descendents of the original pigs sent to Kofu from Des Moines!), and a kangaroo.

As more clubs were introduced though, I was reminded that this was Kofu, and everything is pretty casual here.
Plenty of students just went and said whatever came into their heads while encouraging the audience to look at the pretty pictures projected onto the screen above them.
There is really something for everyone and you can be a member of more than one club too (unlike at Kita where it seems no-one ever joins more than one club).

The reason I was able to travel around southeast asia for a couple months was because I've been teaching English in Kofu, and saving money whenever possible...during those times when I wasn't skiing up in Nagano or Niigata, spending money on gas for the motorcycle, or pissing it away on alcohol.
