Unfortunately, modern usage of the terms 'cult' or 'sect' is usually associated with negativity, so many people have a negative image of organizations labelled as cults or sects without knowing anything about them.
Even though some new religions have been found to be dangerous (the best-known example is Aum Shinrikyo), there is no evidence of danger in most of the new religions.

As explained in the SHINTO section, no clear division in real life can be made between 'Buddhism' and 'Shinto' in Japan.
The people who attend Shinto shrines are largely the same people who attend Buddhist temples or take part in new religious movements.

Kofuku no Kagaku is fundamentally Buddhist in its basics.
In the context of Kofuku no Kagaku - which emphasizes the fundamentals of its beliefs over absolute adherance to any written theology - the concepts of "buddha" and "bodhisattva" seem to overlap somewhat, as it believes that a soul always comes to Earth for a pre-decided reason (which spreading wisdom definitely qualifies as).
Actually, Kofuku no Kagaku's concept of Heaven seems more Christian than Buddhist - in many forms of Buddhism, "Nirvana" (which literally means "blowing out" or "extinction") is not so much a positive state - a gratification of some kind of desires, physical or spiritual - but is instead *the end* of all desires.

Since numerous tests have shown beyond reasonable doubt that there is no empirical correlation between astrological signs and character traits, any critique from within the astrological community itself against such divergent views is necessarily directed against deviations from an established tradition.
It should therefore come as no surprise that some of the most successful attempts to define what this new spirituality is supposed to achieve present the results of spiritual advancement as personal success in a variety of areas.
No religion is based on logic and adherence to what is empirically verifiable; two basic elements of any faith are the willing suspension of disbelief and sheer habit.
