 Ozu - 90th Anniversary book - part one of two
The original story was written by Chuji Nozu, a pseudonym for four collaborators: Ozu himself, Kogo Noda, Tadamoto Okubo and Tadao Ikeda.
According to Noda, in the missing first scene, the Central Meteorological Observatory of Tokyo and a spinning wind gauge is shown, then appears the insert title, 'Today, it is such a fine day for kidnapping'.
Kogo Noda wrote that he used the play Old Heidelberg (Alt-Heidelberg) by Wilhelm Meyer-Foerster as a model, which was also made into a film by Ernst Lubitsch, The Student Prince (1927).
