Kouta Hirano - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The story takes place primarily at a train station in Russia and features two female characters that are strikingly similar to Heinkel and Yumiko/Yumie in Crossfire; and who are, in actuality, undercover Axis spies in-league with one another for a common purpose: the success of Operation Barbarossa.
In a panel question at Anime Expo 2005, Hirano stated his favorites: his favourite male characters were Alucard and Alexander Anderson, and his favorite female character was Seras Victoria.
Hirano is openly a fanboy of many anime and manga series, including Gundam, Saint Seiya, and One Piece, and describes his hobbies as "being annoying" and "beating off".

 Animefringe: September 2004 - Reviews - Hellsing Vol. 3
Hirano Kohta has a knack for depicting characters on the borderline between sanity, excitement, and madness.
In addition to a short message from Kohta, the third installment of Cross Fire is presented at the end of the book.
Cross Fire is a feisty story, also created by Hirano Kohta, that served as his inspiration for Hellsing.

Created by Kohta Hirano, and making its way into an incredibly popular anime, Hellsing pushes the boundary of horror, yet looks so visually stunning and graphically cool that instead of being scary, it's super fun.
The artistic sense of Kohta Hirano, who wrote the story and drew the panels, is excellent and a little different than the common manga style, a little mutated, to better explain.
Another common artistic feature is the glasses worn by 3/4ths of the cast, which Kohta Hirano actually comments on.

Hellsing vol 1 Manga Review.  DVD VISION JAPAN (DVD VISION)
Kohta Hirano put an incredible amount of detail into each frame of the manga.
Through the detail, the reader can understand what is happening in the many action scenes and yet not so detailed as to make the frames confusing.
EXTRAS: The extras include an insert about the Author Kohta Hirano, a character explanation page, and a bonus chapter about the Vatican special unit.

The art, as in previous volumes, is beautiful and incredibly detailed, and this volume gives Kohta Hirano numerous opportunities to showcase his talents, especially in the illustrations of the embattled warship, numerous high-speed jets, and even a fleet of Zeppelins.
Case in point: Volume Five opens with Alucard having a dream in which he is visited by a number of surprising characters, including Bruce Willis posing as the spirit of the Jackal, Alucard’s gun.
These short interludes Hirano throws in at times help break the tension of death and destruction, and while they are completely out of place, at the same time they strangely feel at home in the storyline.

Join them in a battle of blood, guts, ghouls, gore...and a lot of Kohta Hirano's signature offbeat comedy.
Some folks will already be familiar with the anime; others may be encountering this graphic gothic for the first time.

Hellsing is already a masterwork, (albeit one in progress,) and volume four, as with all of the other volumes of the manga that have come before, seems to be no different.
Hirano has outdone himself yet again, and proven, also yet again, that his style, like a fine wine, only gets better with age.
As with any manga series, I recommend you start with the first volume, (in order to maintain the story's general coherency and provide a more enjoyable experience overall,) but if you've already read through volume three, then this book is a definite must have!

Hirano's storytelling is easy to follow, as stylish close-ups of the "we're-groovy-and-we-know-it" characters explode into violent full-page illustrations of all-out mayhem.

The artwork is excellent to say the least; Hirano's style has certainly come a long way since the previous three mangas!
His work in Volume four is far more refined, and the storyline progresses in an adrenaline choked suspense ride jam-packed with the kind of gore and gothic crusaderism we've come to expect from Hirano.

In seven short stories, Kohta Hirano introduces two secret organizations in detail without boring or confusing the reader.
Obviously, Hirano means to pull no punches and that is exactly what his controversial style or storytelling and artistic flare succeeded at doing so well.
I found myself asking questions about the past and motivations of the characters (the and that's the kind of trait that keeps people coming back to a manga for future volumes).
