Kokkai (0-5) is in plain diverts with now 5 defeats of at a stretch.
Kokkai on the other hand records one 4th defeat of at a stretch; it is beaten by the ozeki Chiyotaikai (2-2).
Kokkai (0-3) was to try to mark its first point in this combat and Tochiazuma (1-1) wanted to make forget its defeat of the day before; it is finally the latter which carried it by hatakikomi after an exchange of tsuppari or none of the two combatants tried to seize the mawashi adversary.

Kokkai cooled down in a hurry during week two when he filled the vacancies left by Chiyotaikai, Hakuho, and Roho, but he was the first guy to score a kinboshi this year with the win over Asashoryu.
When Kokkai is on, he can manipulate even Asashoryu; but when he abandons ship for the pull down, he's as useless as my aim when trying to urinate in a moving shinkansen (bullet train) that suddenly brakes.
Kokkai fills the East slot after the worst basho of his sumo career in May. If he doesn't win ten this basho, then I'll be the first in line to say that I over-hyped him when he first entered the division.

Kokkai, no weakling, has also shown flashes of brilliance--hey, he kicked Asashoryu's ass last basho, but far too often the Georgian looks confused and abandons his style of sumo that gives him the advantage over his opponents.
Kokkai comes from a bit more prominent stable that included at the time Hayateumi, but Kokkai was bigger on his first day on the job than Hayateumi was already.
Then you have Kokkai come in who is already bigger and stronger than everyone and has facial hair growing back 30 minutes after he shaves.

Fresh from his victory over Kaio on Wednesday, second-ranked Kokkai, whose ring name means Black Sea, steamed into Kotooshu and repeatedly yanked at the ozeki in a fierce battle between eastern European wrestlers.

RE: [sumo] Kokkai - maybe the next Yokozuna?
To me, Kokkai looks to be a little too one-dimensional, and I think he'll end up being another Toki; Great in lower Makuuchi, but performs poorly in uppper Makuuchi.
Watching Kokkai's style (the few times I could see it during the Juryo replies on TV Japan), I think that the "strange and unknown" style is still a bit of a factor for other wrestlers facing Kokkai.
As a result, he is using his long arms and a (ot my eyes) pronounced squat to push/tsuppari opponents resulting in oshi-dashi and yorikiri as his most popular winning kimarite.

TOKYO (Reuters) - A Georgian sumo wrestler has been ordered to shave off his beard after opponents complained it was too prickly and spectators grumbled with displeasure.
Kokkai's week-old stubble gave him an unusual edge in practice, prompting his sumo stable-master to take the unusual step of making him shave, Japanese newspapers said on Sunday.
Murmurs of disapproval could be heard from sumo fans when Kokkai appeared for training on the sport's provincial tour but the 170-kilogram Georgian insisted he was no scruff.

Normally I don't nitpick the English announcers on the NHK coverage, but it was funny, watching each of them describe Kokkai's Day 12 tachiai against Kotooshu as "perfect," even though it was Kokkai who was knocked off balance by the collision, while Kotooshu remained 'perfectly' balanced.
I guess what they meant was that Kokkai's tachiai was better in terms of power.
It's a technique called "moving out of the way when your opponent lunges at you", Kotooshu used it quite effectively against Kokkai.
