The word 'langur' is derived from the Sanskrit word 'langulin' meaning long tail.
The extended habitat of this animal is the Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary near Kokrajhar.

Kokrajhar was the blood centre for the Bodoland Movement which created history and even today it is recognised as the capital town for the Bodos.
Today Kokrajhar is the headquarters of Bodoland Territorial Council which was formed in 2003-2004 as a consequence of a Memorandum of Settlement with the BLTF.
