The most important need is to compensate for the wetland resources lost at Khobi river mouth due to the oil terminal construction, including its access areas from the sea (deep water navigation channel) and from inland (railway track).
Since 1999, the main part of the Ramsar Site is included in Kolkheti National Park (www.knp.ge) spreading north-south between the mouths of the rivers Tikori and Supsa, established as part of Georgia's Integrated Coastal Management Programme (with World Bank GEF support).
As the RISs for the two existing Ramsar Sites N°893 "Wetlands of Central Kolkheti" and N°894 "Ispani II Marshes" date from the time of accession (30 May 1996), they should urgently be updated now and adapted to conform with the currently valid format.

TBILISI, May 3 (Reuters) - Georgian clubs Merani-91 Tbilisi and Kolkheti 1913 Poti were penalised for match-fixing by the Georgian Football Federation (GFF) on Thursday.
Merani and Kolkheti have become the latest Premier Division sides to have the result of their April 21 match, which Kolkheti won 4-2, nullified in less than a month.
In their match Merani went 2-0 up in the first 30 minutes before Kolkheti scored four unanswered goals for a 4-2 win.

 Lanchkhuti Population Demands Amendments To Law On National Parks
December 23 (Prime-News) – About 300 man of the population of west-Georgian Lantchkhuti District staged a protest rally in Tbilisi on Friday to demand amendment of the State Law on National Parks.
According to them, the present legislation prohibits them to use a nine-hectare forest reserve of Kolkheti either for cattle breadingor fishing and hunting that earns them some living.
Aleksandre Tsintsadze, the Presidential Envoy in Guria Region met the participants of the rally and promised to protect their rights at all levels of the Establishment.

It also included interviews with the Minister of Environment, the Director of the ICZM Centre, wetland experts from GPAP (a Georgian NGO, developing management plans for the Kolkheti Wetlands), and the World Bank expert Christian Goener.
The stakeholders receiving this package (aproximately 300 people) included national and local decisions-makers (such as Chairmen of the Parliament, State Minister, relevant Ministers, local (districts) Administrations), also local and national NGOs, private sector, mass media, and the general public living adjacent to the National Park.
Distribution of the package was conducted by members of a working group (local representatives) who assist the ICZM centre and they used this opportunity to discuss further the importance of the Kolkheti wetlands with the various stakeholders.
