Those that had originated from Kolomyja returned there and were later supplemented with Jews from Czechoslovakia and Austria after the Anschluss – they had seen the writing on the wall.
Pernek tried to hang himself in the prison cell, but later he was so overcome with remorse, he requested pen and paper to record what had happened in Kolomyja and confirmed the forest liquidations and the use of dogs to tear at Jewish throats.
Peter Leideritz, Chief of the SD in Kolomyja has much to answer for in the extermination of the Jews in the Kolomyja District.

Kolomyja (Pol.: Kołomyja, Germ.: Kolomea) is a city in the Southwest Ukraine where Jews had lived since the 16th Century.
Although many of Kolomyja's Jews had already been killed or deported, the ghetto was still overcrowded with new victims who had been forced move to the city from other places in the county.
At Kolomyja station only 30 wagons were waiting for them, and so the police forced 180-200 people into each wagon.

City on the Prut River in the Carpathian foothills with an approximate population of 63,000, currently the city is located in the Ukraine.
First mentioned in 1240, Kolomyja was a settlement in the Halich-Wolhynian principality.
At the end of WWI a short lived Independent Ukraine was proclaimed and the city was part of that newly independent republic.

I ordered the removal of the transport train from the Kolomyja station as soon as possible and coupled it to the 30 wagons from Kolomyja, which was standing in the branch line, far removed from the station.
For the purposes of our Kolomyja transport, and it was basically the same procedure elsewhere in the Generalgouvernement, a detachment of Schupo personnel were ordered to the scene to guard the train until the time of departure to prevent escapes.

The celebrated historian Raul Hillberg has estimated that more than a quarter of the victims of the Holocaust were killed in the shootings; more than half perished in the six notorious death camps; and the remainder succumbed in the terrible conditions of ghettos, labour and concentration camps, or in death marches.
Some 1,500 Jews had to be driven on foot marches 50 kilometers from Kuty or 35 kilometers from Kosov to Kolomyja, where they were kept overnight in the courtyard of the Security Police prison with other Jews brought together from the region.
In the actions in the area around Kolomyja on September 8 and 10, some 400 Jews had to be eliminated by shooting for the well-known reasons.

The trains deporting Jews from Galicia did indeed go to Belzec, as can be seen in the report of Reserve Lieutenant Westermann of the 7th company of Police Regiment 24, whose men helped round up the Jews in Kolomyja and nearby towns and then guarded two transports to Belzec on September 7 and 10, 1942.
As Lieutenant Westermann concluded: "The ever greater panic spreading among the Jews due to the great heat, overloading of the train cars, and stink of the dead--when unloading the train cars some 2,000 Jews were found dead in the train--made the transport almost unworkable." Nevertheless the train that left Kolomyja at 8:50 pm.

At around midday capt. Marzys, the adjutant of KOP "Podole" organised some sort of defence around the bridge on the river Dniestr in the town of Ustieczko
Sniatyn and Kolomyja were taken by the Soviets at the earliest on the 19/09, quite possibly they were taken on the 19.09.
This confirms that the Soviets didn't have complete control of the region until 19.09.
