In this square is situated the Gothic church of St Michael (1396-1432); in front is a bronze equestrian statue of King Matthias Corvinus by the Hungarian sculptor Fadrusz (1902).
Kolozsvar is the literary and scientific centre of Transylvania, and is the seat of numerous literary and scientific associations.
As capital of Transylvania and the seat of the Transylvanian diets, Kolozsvar from 1830 to 1848 became the centre of the Hungarian national movement in the grand principality; and in December 1848 it was taken and garrisoned by the Hungarians under General Bern.

Kolozsvar was viewed as the capital city of the Hungarians of Transylvania because of this as well as on account of its geographical position.
The Hungarian population of Kolozsvar, in the midst of a mainly Romanian county, must have felt as did Hungarians of Transylvania in general, surrounded as they were by a Romanian majority.
While at the University of Kolozsvar the relationship between Romanian and Hungarian students became tense on account of the general situation in Transylvania, the atmosphere at the University of Budapest was calmer.

In Kolozsvar the Romanian army killed the major of the city at Christhmas Eve and after an important number of Hungarian population without any consider on children, women and olds.
Kolozsvar was changed overnight into Cluj, Nagyvarad into Oradea, Marosvasarhely into Tirgu Mures, Szatmarnemeti into Satu Mare, Temesvar into Timisoara, etc. Many names were simply translated, such as Disznos into Porcu, Medvepatak into Ursu, Nagybanya into Baia Mare, Szentegyed into Sinte Jude, etc. Street markers were replaced and streets renamed.
Those who were born and raised in one of the Transylvanian towns, and lived there all their lives, suddenly had to change their old established home address to a new-one, in a foreign language they did not even know how to pronounce.

Cluj-Napoca (in Hungarian Kolozsvar, in German Clausenburg) is a city in Cluj County of Romania (in the valley of Somes River in Transylvania).
The settlement as the second largest Hungarian community over the border is a cultural and political centre of the Transylvanian Hungarians.
The Parliament of Transylvania in Kolozsvar (in Romanian Cluj) decided the Union with Hungary on 30th May 1848.

The word Napocensis derives from Napoca, the Latin name for Kolozsvar, which is the largest city in Transylvania; it was presumably the author's home town.

Todor graduated fromn the Kilozsvar seminary in 1999 and is married to Eva, a school teacher, and has a young daughter.
Maria Pap (2003-2004), along with Kinga-Reka (Zsigmond) Szekeley (1999-2000), was one of the first two women in 40 years to graduate from the Kolozsvar seminary, where all Romanian Unitarian ministers receive their theological education.
He found this school, an oasis where the past is honored, the present is nurturing and joyful, and the future of liberal faith is secured.

Benjamin Legg was appointed to the position of English Teacher for Unitarian Students at the Protestant Theological Institute in Kolozsvar, Romania, in the Spring of 2005, and has just begun his first semester there.
Legg is a life-long Unitarian Universalist who has received his certification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
Legg has studied and worked in both Brazil and Russia, and, before moving to Kolozsvar, he lived most recently in South Attleboro, Massachusetts, where he was employed as a feature reporter for The Sun Chronicle newspaper.

 Major dates from the History of the Transylvanian Unitarian Church
He had been following David Ferenc faithfully in the developments of the reformation.
Since 1544 he was a Lutheran reformer in Kolozsvar, starting in 1559 he was a devotee of the Swiss reformation; and beginning with 1569 he became a Unitarian orator.
His printing house was one of the few European presses making the publication of Unitarian books possible.
