Self-styled leader of the assault fighters or Sturmflieger, and Kommodore of JG 300 from early summer 1944, Walther Dahl is a somewhat controversial figure in the history of these units.
Previously Gruppenkommandeur III./ JG 3 and a Ritterkreuzträger since March 1944, Dahl had been named Kommodore of JG z.b.V at the end of May 1944.
After the outstanding success of the Sturm tactic over Oschersleben he would be charged specifically with the task of converting this unit's II Gruppe to the Sturm mission as he relates in his book Rammjäger.

During the Battle of Britan, Hrabak became a founding member of JG 54, as all three Gruppen were brought together to form the new Geschwader.
Hrabak served ably as Kommodore as JG 54 traveled to the Balkans and finally the steppes of Russia.
On November 1, 1942, he left JG 54 to become Kommodore of JG 52, which was assigned to southern sector.

Lützow was named Kommodore of JG 3 on 21 August 1940 and apparently continued flying the machine he had flown as the commander of I./JG 3 for some time.
Note the yellow identification finish on the engine cowling, extending to the windscreen, and the area which was not overpainted around the green Tatzelwurm emblem of the Stab of I./JG 3.

 Robert Taylor - Most Memorable Day
Galland fought in the formidable air battles over Poland and France, and on account of his success was posted to become Kommandeur of III./JG-26 in June 1940, and was appointed Kommodore of JG-26 on August 22, 1940.
He was later Kommodore of JG-4, and JG-6 for the last months of the war.
He flew over 700 combat missions, achieving 40 victories, all in the west, and was awarded the Knight's Cross in 1940.

Hannes Trautloft began his combat flying career in Spain flying in the Condor Legion, gaining the first German victory of that war and later was the first Legion pilot to test the newly arrived Me109.
He fought in the Balkans, Greece and Russia and in November 1942 was promoted to Kommodore of JG-52.
In June 1941 he was awarded the Oak Leaves to the Knight’s Cross and by April 1942 his victories had risen to 100 and he received the Swords to the Oak Leaves as only the ninth recipient.

The 8th and the 15th USAAF attacked the Politz refinery complex and Messerschmitt at Wiener Neustadt respectively but initial attempts to form a Gefechtsverband with IV./JG 3 for perhaps the first time under operational conditions were scuppered by a lack of radio communications.
The Gruppen of JG 300 had no way of communicating with the Verbandsführer and their erratic manouevres contributed to the break up of the battle formation and probably the death of 100 plus victory ace, Kommodore of JG 3 and former Gruppenkommandeur IV./JG 3, Major Friedrich Karl Müller.
Müller was forced to leave the formation, his machine damaged as a result of a collision and died in the subsequent crash landing at Salzwedel.

On 1 December 1941 he was promoted to Major and on 6 December 1941 became Kommodore of JG 26 when Adolf Galland was promoted General der Jagdfieger.
On 10 April he was appointed Kommodore of JG 6 based in northern Czechoslovakia.
He became a prisoner of the Russians and languished in Soviet prisons for four and a half years finally returning to Germany in December 1949.

The closest evidence we have to factual is an illustration that was checked and amended by Galland himself.
He remained adamant that his aircraft did not carry a Kommodore's horizontal bars but simply wore a 'White 3' in the usual location ahead of the fuselage Balkenkreuz as depicted on this model.
Other sources place the 3 forward fuselage but without photographic evidence it remains unproven as to which is correct.
