Tiki, the son of the sun, who was ancestor of the Easter Islanders, seemed to be the same as Kon-Tiki, the mythical head of a white race who, expelled by the Incas from around Lake Titicaca, sailed west across the Pacific.
Heyerdahl was intrigued by the presence in Polynesia of plants indigenous to South America, and especially by legends on Easter Island that echoed those of the Inca tradition in Peru.
