Donkey Konga for GameCube Review - GameCube Donkey Konga Review
The conceit behind Donkey Konga almost doesn't require explanation, either--you hit the drums in time with the music--but the way this action is presented onscreen doesn't necessarily play directly to the strengths of the DK Bongos themselves.
The icons themselves are color-coded, with the yellow icon standing for the left drum pad, the red icon for the right, and a pink icon for smacking both at once, along with a blue starburst icon for claps.
It's pretty apparent that Nintendo really wants Donkey Konga to be a full-on family activity, and the music selection goes a long way toward helping it appeal to a broad age range.

Donkey Konga 2 is still a worthy addition to your GameCube library since at its core it's still a fun game.
In the first Konga this mode was only open for 1 player, so it's nice they allow a second player to join in.

Perhaps you're like me and were intrigued by Donkey Konga, a rhythm game featuring Nintendo's Donkey Kong, produced by Namco, in which the player beats on a specially made bongo controller.
Although Donkey Konga 3's gameplay is easily picked up, it does take a long time to master and for a player that enjoys it, the game is very rewarding.
Much of the reason that I bought Donkey Konga 3, as opposed to the first or second iterations of the game, were for songs like Asian Kung-Fu Generation's 'Reraito,' Orange Range's 'Hana,' and Dragonball Z's classic 'Cha-la Head Cha-la' theme.

Konga represents a somewhat hefty financial investment, especially if you want to round up enough peripherals to fill your GameCube's controller ports, but for sheer universal fun there's nothing else on the system that compares.
The beginner's level is a breeze, but Konga later becomes deliciously challenging, with hilarity-inducing flustered panic as you start to fall behind and surprising levels of concentration required to clap instead of drum.
It’s frustrating to find the overall Donkey Konga experience restrained by some basic flaws in the design of the game; the fact that a group of you can’t really enjoy it unless you’ve got multiple bongos is just crazy.

PALGN 2005 :: Donkey Konga Review
Donkey Konga comes with one pair of Bongos but an extra pair can be purchased from Nintendo Australia for $49.95 The battle mode is a little unfair as some of the POW blocks can immediately drop an opponent’s score by a lot, making for an easy victory.
Donkey Konga requires players to pay another $49.95 if they want another pair of Bongo's, only then could we see the title lasting longer, it is a bit on the short / novel side.
Donkey Konga is exactly how Nintendo wanted it to be, a quick pick up and play title, but we would have loved to have seen more depth in the game.

Donkey Konga was a wild little rhythm game that came very close to winning our GamerDad Family Game of the Year Award but lost due to a weird little game from outer space.
Donkey Konga 2 features slightly better gameplay (more of the songs are genuinely challenging than before), a much better/more intuitive menu layout, and anyone still playing the original should pick up the sequel as a matter of course.
Donkey Konga 2 is more of the same, and there are far fewer kid's songs, but that's okay.

 Konga
After dinner, Margaret catches Decker and Sandra in the greenhouse, just as Decker is putting the moves on the girl, telling her that Margaret has “outlived her usefulness as an assistant” and that he needs a “young, fresh mind” to help him with his future work.
Konga goes downtown, carrying Decker (note that no matter how big Konga gets relative to the scenery, he never gets any bigger relative to the scientist), and does a fair amount of panic-inducing (but very little city-smashing) before his inevitable confrontation with a company of heavily armed soldiers.
This is how such disappointing movies as Gorgo and The Gorgon ought to have been handled, and Konga proves at last that there are at least a few Brits who know how to make a monster movie (as opposed to a horror movie, which is not necessarily the same thing).

There are four types of inputs: the left drum, represented on-screen by a yellow half-circle; the right drum, represented by a red half-circle; both drums, represented by a pink circle; and the drum even recognizes hand claps, signified by light blue bursts.
In addition to the main mode, there is also a two-player battle mode, a one- to four-player free session mode, and a challenge mode for one or two players, putting you through song after song until you’re either too exhausted to go on or have beaten your way through every track on the playlist.

Pro-G - Prodigious Gaming: Donkey Konga Review
Donkey Konga has been in the pipeline for quite some time following a Japanese release some months ago, and I think it's fair to say that nobody's really been expecting much of it.
Unless, of course, you have a cheating gimp present who takes advantage of the game's tragic inability to distinguish whether both left and right bongos are continually being pressed all the time in order to cover all eventualities.
Donkey Konga is a typically Nintendo piece of pointless but interesting innovation; it isn't going anywhere, but it's nonetheless brilliant fun.

Donkey Konga 2: Hit Song Parade Import Impressions - GameCube News at GameSpot
Donkey Konga 2, recently released in Japan, serves up more of what gave the original its appeal: monkeys, drums, an eclectic mix of Japanese music, multiplayer support, and general wackiness.
At first blush, Donkey Konga 2: Hit Song Parade is shaping up to be a solid follow-up to the original Donkey Konga, and it should please fans of the series.
For those wondering if Donkey Konga 2 will come over as well, we expect that will depend on whether US audiences can become one with their inner drum-beating monkeys and make Donkey Konga a success.

Nintendo's Donkey Konga, a rhythm action game developed by Namco, was a unique entry into the genre when it hit the Japanese market last year.
The game was enough of a success to warrant consideration for a US release, which has resulted in a tweaked version of the title hitting US shores later this year.
All told, Donkey Konga may well surprise those who have an open mind and a sense of goofy adventure.

GamingWorld X - Donkey Konga (JPN) Review
Based on the Taiko games, and featuring a Donkey Kong-styled barrel conga, Donkey Konga follows the same basic formula of the genre: icons appear on screen indicating where to step or what to hit in time with the music.
Bottom Line - Donkey Konga is good, but it’s not great, and certainly not a must-have, even for fans of the genre.
Of course, almost all the songs are in Japanese, too, and that may or may not bother you.

The spin off is none other than Donkey Konga, a rhythm-based music game in vein of Sega’s Dreamcast title, Samba de Amigo.
With little credit to be given to the Big N in the music genre, the folk at Namco will have to double their efforts to make Donkey Konga a known musical game.
Innovation and an internationally known character are on Konga’s side, so Nintendo should encounter few troubles when marketing it.
