The truth behind Konix... - NTSC-uk.com Forums
Konix wanted a machine to fit inside the restrictive shell of their fantastic joystick and Flare obviously saw this as the best possible home for their hardware.
Konix had constantly leaked lots of information to the gaming press right from the beginning of development, and the public were now desperate for more detailed facts.
Konix ran out of money, they tried to be too clever making add ons rather then getting the main system up and running and to a stage where they could make it, I am sure they never got the board to a stage where it could have been mass produced...

Konix, the manufacturere was reknowned in the game industry at the time for it's cheap, good quality joysticks.
Initially the Multisystem was scheduled for release in late 1989 to mid 1990, however Konix really didn't have the resources for the project and the release never came, Konix imploding with the expenditure involved.
After the death of the Konix Multisystem, Flare went back to the drawing board and designed what was to become another shortlived 'wonder' console, the Atari Jaguar.

From: Grand Prairie, TX I thought one of the reasons he was involved with the Jaguar was because he was on the ground floor of the Konix Multi System.
Since the Konix's hardware was fairly related to the Jaguar, and he was already familiar with the technology, I guess it was pretty easy for him to pick up the new development system and start working right away.

Flare Technology, a company formed by Martin Brennan and John Mathieson, said that not only could they make a console far superior to the Sega Genesis or the SNES, but they could also be cost-effective.
Impressed by their work on the Konix Multisystem, Atari persuaded them to close Flare and, with Atari providing the funding, form a new company called Flare II.
The voice modem and VR headset (with infrared head-tracking), existed in prototype form, but were never commercialized.

In the early 1990s, Konix, known as the manufacturers of the popular Speedking joystick, designed a revolutionary controller-console that could transform from a steering wheel to a yoke and to a stick with little effort.
It also incorporated a 3.5" disk drive, and a hydraulic chair for force feedback could also be added, effectively making a true arcade experience possible at home.
The Konix Multisystem console never entered the market because of financial trouble, but the concept of a shape-shifting controller had potential.

I believe he meant the Konix Multi-System, a really interesting system being worked on by a British company called Konix back around 1989.
It was supposed to have a built-in steering wheel device that can be reconfigured as either motorcycle handlebars or as a flight yoke, a light gun controller that looked like the forerunner to the Sega Menacer, and would run its software off 3 1/2-inch disks through a built-in drive.
Konix is (or was), I believe, the European arm of the software company Epyx (I don't think they're around anymore, are they??).

(and perhap the Panther also though I'm not sure) because the Flare One company / project / chipset was the Konix MultiSystem.
The 16/32-Bit Atari Panther might have had a completely seperate heritage from the Flare (Konix MultiSystem) and Flare II (Jaguar) as it was developed in parallel to the Jaguar.

They should have written it about Jeff Minter since the late 1980s.
Despite it becoming increasingly clear that the Atari ST was losing market share to Commodore's Amiga, Jeff continued to concentrate on the ST right through to the days of the Atari Falcon, with a brief flirtation with Konix' ill-fated British console, the MultiSystem.
Having built up a strong working relationship with Atari, he was approached to write games for the Jaguar and was responsible for what is widely considered as the greatest game for the short lived format, Tempest 2000.
